Are the baby bottles you are using safe for your baby? If they incorporate BPA the answer is no. Many bottles are made with the use of a dangerous chemical called BPA (bisphenol A). This article explains what BPA is and why you must never use bottles that incorporate it.
My wife and I initial heard of BPA shortly before our twins Jack and Lilly were born. A friend had purchased assorted BPA free baby bottles as a gift for Melanie’s baby shower. Having never heard of BPA we asked our friend what it was. She explained that BPA is a chemical present in a good deal of plastic goods including most plastic baby bottles. She went on to say dangerous levels of this chemical may leach into the baby’s milk, exceptionally when the bottles are heated. She informed us that the bottles she purchased for us were made from BPA free plastic, but that bottles made with glass and silicone are likewise BPA free.
We thanked our friend for her thoughtful gift and over the next couple of days I did a little more on-line exploration into BPA. I quickly learned how essential using BPA free baby bottles is. The following is what I learned.
Canada has made it illegal to trade baby bottles that incorporate BPA and there is increasing pressure on the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to do the same. Several U.S. states have banned baby productions that integrate BPA. This includes New York which passed a law in July 2010 banning the sale of baby bottles, pacifiers, sippy cups and other merchandise that comprise BPA. The FDA has not long ago admitted that there “is concern” over BPA and has committed to spend thirty million dollars for exploration into the risk related with BPA.
There have been galore studies showing that dangerous levels of BPA leach into baby bottles when heated. In 2008 a group of researchers freed a report titled “Baby’s Toxic Bottle”. The report stated that six leading brands of bottles were subjected to a heat test and that all six leached, what they consider, dangerous levels of BPA. The researchers cited the some studies conducted on animals that prove BPA may harm the immune, neurological, and generative schemes for the duration of a baby’s development. They likewise stated BPA has been linked to various forms of cancer. The report concluded by calling on such merchants who sells goods at retail as Wal-Mart and Babies R Us to offer safer products.
I learned that BPA is applied in all types of plastic products, not just baby bottles. It is used in such things as plastic water bottles, plastic containers, and canned feed liners. In fact BPA is one the most produced chemicals in the world. It is estimated, by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) that 95% of Americans have BPA in their urine. Unfortunately BPA present in a mother may be passed on to a nursing baby.
Even though the FDA is still looking into the safety of BPA my wife and I would never consider using anything but BPA free baby bottles. We have even taken it a step further and do not use any plastic merchandise that integrate BPA. We no longer store feed in plastic containers or drink out of plastic water bottles. We would rather act now than have the FDA tell us in a few years how dangerous BPA is.

 A mixed bag.

My baby had to supplement almost from the begin due to breastfeeding supply problems. We started using a bottle at with regards to 3 wks of age. I purchased regarding 10 dissimilar types of bottles attempting to find one that he could with great success draw milk from. Most, including this one, were too hard for him to get anything out of. I in the long run had a great deal of success with the cheapy-cheap-cheap Gerber bottle and nipple I found at the supermarket.
Now that he’s older, approaching 10 wks of age, the Gerber bottle and nipple is much too easy for him and he glugs and crushes the nipple with the strength of his suck. The same is true for his Green to Grow, Medela, and Evenflo Purely Comfi nipples. So my quest now is to find bottles that have firm sufficient nipples that he doesn’t squish them with his suck and likewise to find bottles/nipples with suitable flow rates.
I have revisited a good deal of of the bottles that were unsuitable when he was 3 wks old. This bottle has turned out to be the winner of the group.
Pros:
- Good flow speed, not too fast, not too slow.
- Broad nipple base is hard for the boy to flatten with his strong suck
- Broad nipple base helps the boy retain some of his breastfeeding chops, as we proceed to undertake and nurse the few times a day my supply will grant for.
Cons:
- Frequent leaks. This bottle’s nipple-within-a-nipple design means the chamber amongst the outer and inner nipple fills with milk, which is fine. But when you set the bottle down, that milk drains back downward, ideally back into the bottle. Often (but not always), unfortunately, on it is way back down into the bottle, the formula leaks out by way of the threads where you screw the nipple collar onto the bottle. If that makes any sense. This is true even if you cautiously align the two nipples properly.
My main comment regarding this bottle is that it’s a good support in sustaining breastfeeding attainments but if you find your baby doesn’t like it at first, hang onto it. He/she may grow into it like my baby has. As with so galore things, what’s in favor one week is never the same the following week.

 first years breastflow bottles are awesome!

i have tried avent, dr. brown’s, you name it, i have purchased them. it was only until i tried primary year’s breastflow bottle that my baby in the long run was happy to proceed w/my breastfeeding and switch over to the bottle at the same time. it is designed to support w/moms who breastfeed and bottle feed at the same time. my baby will not take to any other bottle besides this bottle and she loves it and so do i. i highly commend this bottle.

Mimics breastfeeding best

I have been very happy with the performance of the BreastFlow bottles. I too had started out using Avent bottles after hearing rave reviews of them when I was still pregnant. However, I found that the Avent nipples fundamentally poured and dumped the milk into my daughter’s mouth; she would go through 4 ounces in 4 minutes, wearing regarding half an ounce on her bib. Then when she returned to breastfeed later, she’d have a very disorganized suck from nipple confusion.
These BreastFlow bottles and their distinctive (though uncomplicated) nipples mimic breastfeeding so much better that she’ll even take a bottle from me. We have no more difficultnesses alternating amid breast and bottle. It now takes her with regards to 10-12 minutes to finish a 4 oz bottle, on occasion up to 15 minutes, which is when it comes to the same duration she spends breastfeeding. She doesn’t end up wearing most of her meal, either.
Overall, I would commend this to any breastfeeding mother who has to offer her baby a bottle. Even the caregivers at my daughter’s daycare were impressed with the performance of the BreastFlow system.
